Cozumel

The beautiful island of Cozumel, the largest inhabited island in Mexico, is a paradise for divers from all over the world. The island is surrounded by more than 25 reef formations where divers of all ages and skills can enter into a completely fascinating and different world: endless coral inhabited by immense shoals of colorful fish. The possibilities are interminable for both beginners and experts. East of the Yucatán Peninsula, on top of the age-old structures of the Mayan coral reef, the second largest in the world, stands the Island of Cozumel, the largest inhabited island in Mexico. Its name, derived from the word Cuzamil, meaning “island of swallows” in Maya, conjures up memories of its pre-Hispanic origin, the conquest of America and the pirates and buccaneers that thronged its seas. The Island of Cozumel measures 48 km from north to south but only 16 from east to west. On either side of the island, beaches form a long, white sandy coast. Gentle waves and transparent waters wash the western side of the island, while huge waves crash against the eastern side. Its flora and fauna have a number of unusual features and include certain endemic species, such as the dwarf raccoon and the Cozumel wren. Cozumel’s greatest wealth, however, lies underwater.

Grand Cayman

Spectacular natural beauty, a wealth of activities and points of interest, and all the modern conveniences to make your stay as comfortable as possible can be found here on the largest and most developed of the three Cayman Islands. Grand Cayman is the home of George Town, the capital city, which boasts some of the finest cuisine and shopping in the Caribbean. Whether you want to explore a sunken wreck, dance the night away, or simply go sightseeing, Grand Cayman is the place to start.

Mobile

Welcome to the beautiful Port City of Mobile, which has spent the last 300 years becoming a premier destination for visitors of all ages, cultures and backgrounds! The city, which will celebrate its 300th birthday in 2002, is famous for its abundant culture, rich history and sumptuous cuisine. The Port City has become a tourist and convention favorite in the past years due to the construction of a waterfront convention center, new attractions and significant growth of its downtown retail industry and midtown residential areas. Mobile is home to many attractions, museums, and other venues for visitors to enjoy. The Gulf Coast Exploreum Museum of Science and IMAX Theater offers three venues of fun for all ages. Just across the street, the Cotton Blossom Sternwheeler can take eager passengers on an excursion up the Mobile River. Visitors can also explore Mobile’s fascinating past with a visit to the Museum of Mobile. The museum is located in a historic building that was once an open-air market and city hall. Over 100,000 artifacts allow visitors to see and learn about the city’s fascinating past and remarkable development into a commercial and maritime center. The museum also houses the royal robes of Mardi Gras Queens dating back to 1928. Boating on a much larger scale is only minutes away at one of Mobile’s anchor attractions; the U.S.S. Alabama Battleship Memorial Park is your onramp to adventure. Visitors can climb aboard the Battleship that won nine World War II Battle Stars, delve into the depths in the Submarine U.S.S. Drum and fly with 21 combat planes in the aircraft pavilion. Mobile’s other anchor attraction, Bellingrath Gardens & Home, is about 20 minutes southwest of the city. It encompasses 65 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens around the historic home of Walter and Bessie Bellingrath. The Gardens are in “bright bloom” during the holiday season when Magic Christmas in Lights illuminates the grounds with millions of lights. The neon lights of Dauphin Street, within walking distance of downtown hotels, mark the “Little Bourbon Street” of Mobile with restaurants and nightclubs offering something for everyone. The rest of downtown Mobile is a maze of interesting shops and palate-pleasing restaurants, with most storefronts restored to illustrate the city’s historic architecture. Mobile’s role in the history can still be seen during a visit to Fort Morgan at Gulf Shores and Fort Gaines on Dauphin Island. The 1864 Battle of Mobile Bay was a turning point in the Civil War when Union troops attacked both forts to take control of the last active Confederate Port on the Gulf of Mexico. Determined to take the Port of Mobile, after losing the ironclad Tecumseh to torpedoes Confederate defenders had planted, Admiral David Farragut cried, “Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!” and overtook the Port for the Union. Five historic house museums take you back to days gone by and oak-lined streets wrapped in Spanish moss guide you through a renovated downtown. During December, the historic homes offer candlelight tours and “open houses” that invite visitors to enjoy the holiday decor while sipping on Christmas punch and listening to a holiday ensemble. Even Old Saint Nick usually slides down the chimney of each home sometime during the holidays. Even though Mobile is filled with historical attractions, there’s no shortage of modern-day activities to entertain visitors. Sports enthusiasts will find fun BayBears AA Baseball, the GMAC Bowl and the annual Senior Bowl presented by Food World. And with golf, our signature sport- Mobile is home to Magnolia Grove, one of the eleven Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail golf courses. Mobile’s waters are a boating or fishing sportsman’s dream. While the historic aspects, sports, and other activities are welcoming, Mobile is also poised and ready to launch into short-term convention business at a high rate of speed. The MCVC has implemented a “Meeting Express Department” with the expressed purpose of developing and implementing short-term convention business. “The department will work swiftly and aggressively to identify and solicit meetings and leads under 250 room nights and within the next twelve months,” said Brenda J. Scott, CEO/ President Mobile Convention & Visitors Corporation. “With the addition of this department the MCVC Convention Sales Department will be able to concentrate on meetings and conferences eighteen months out, allowing us to fully maximize the use of existing, knowledgeable staff,” added Scott. The spirit of progression toward a bright future is what won Mobile the title “ALL AMERICA CITY.” ?? And with the Tricentennial Celebration of 2002, Mobile is definitely gearing up to welcome the world with true Southern hospitality.

Tampa

Tampa is located on the Gulf coast of Florida in the United States. The amount of changes and progress that this city has gone through over the past 30 years are amazing. There were not nearly as many people then and now the population in the Tampa Bay area is well over one million. Tampa didn't have good roads and streets to drive on in the sixties but now it has the interstate highways, toll roads and nice neat city streets with palm trees and Crepe Myrtle trees planted along the roadside. In the sixties, the city had one major hospital, Tampa General, and a smaller hospital, St Joseph. Now, Tampa General Hospital is like a city within itself and has many people employed and it has extended branches in other areas of Tampa. Tampa has a wealth of good physicians in all areas of medicine with the University of South Florida teaching school of medicine producing many of the local phycicians. Tampa has many nice attractions such as Busch Gardens and Adventure Island. Busch Gardens is a beautiful park that has many unusual animals and rides with a monstrous roller coaster that turns and twirls the people around. It is amazing and it will give you the ride of your life. Busch Gardens has a lot of entertainment such as live bands that plays music from all over the world with beautiful birds and animals everyday. Adventure Island is a water park with beautiful pools of water in every shape imaginable. There is a pool especially for children that is huge and it has many kinds of water toys and the parents even get in these pools with their children. There is also The Water Rapids which are so neat! It looks like a winding canal of crystal clear deep water and the water is rapidly moving. Someone helps you get on a huge intertube and the moving water takes you all through the park and brings you back to the starting point. This is a favorite at Adventure Island. Tampa also is proud of the Performing Arts Theater where many famous plays have been performed such as Cat's and The Phantom of the Opera. MacDill Air Force base is located here in Tampa and it is one of the major military bases in the world and they also played a major role in The Desert Storm conflict. This city also has one of the worlds major ports for exporting and importing and Tampa International Airport is another aspect of Tampa that thousands of tourists use each year. Employment in Tampa is very good and there is never a shortage of jobs. There are people asking for help all the time and needing people with a variety of skills. The housing industry is booming in Tampa. There were not many nice homes in Tampa in the sixties but now new homes are going up every day and Tampa now has large communities spreading out into the country side with many new upscale homes. There was a time when the city had a very nice country side to take long drives to on a Sunday afternoon but now, you have to drive a long ways to find the countryside. Even so, these homes have added to the beauty of Tampa. This city also has one of the worlds major ports for exporting and importing and Tampa International Airport is another aspect of Tampa that thousands of tourists use each year.
